SIDI: Heaven and Hell in Roubaix
After Alberto Bettiol’s victory at the Ronde Sidi also scores second place in the Roubaix with Nils Politt.

Once again, the Paris-Roubaix delivered exceptional thrills. Of course, that’s a given when you’re talking about the Queen of Classics. This race is the hardest, most beautiful, most spectacular, most difficult…the most of everything. Cycling’s heaven and hell: 257 mostly flat km featuring 29 cobblestone sections; then the final moves into the Roubaix velodrome with a thundering crowd cheering the riders on at the finish line.

Sidi is immensely pleased to have figured as a major player with their champions in the race. All the riders on team Sidi who took on this race deserve a round of applause. However, special kudos go to Germany’s Nils Politt from team Katusha-Alpecin, which is one of the World Tour formations sponsored entirely by Sidi, where all the riders use Sidi shoes, with the Shot and Wire 2 Carbon models supplied by the company from Maser (Treviso).

Politt fought like a lion. In the final he lit up the race, going head to head with Philippe Gilbert (Deceuninck-Quick Step) as they vied for victory in the Roubaix velodrome. Politt ultimately had to settle for second place, which is almost as good as a victory. He is only 25 years old and in his fourth year as a pro, and this is the best result he has ever achieved in his career. He’s a rider who loves the hell of Roubaix; in fact, he had already achieved a fine seventh place here in 2018.

This result is no coincidence; on the contrary, it shows that Nils Politt is enjoying a period of excellent form while growing considerably. Just a week ago Politt had also taken fifth place in the Ronde van Vlaanderen. The Ronde and the Roubaix: these are not your average races, but two of five “Monumental Classics” in world cycling, along with the Sanremo, the Liegi and the Lombardia. Sidi can smile because it has wrapped up the first phase of the Northern Classics with this second place by Nils Politt in the Roubaix, which comes after Alberto Bettiol (EF - Education First) won the Ronde van Vlaanderen.

We will definitely be hearing more from this guy as the season progresses. He is battling it out on the northern cobbles with his Sidi Shot shoes, featuring special graphics designed by Sidi especially for team Katusha-Alpecin. This shoe is also very popular among the wider public of cycling fans; in fact, this is why this year Sidi has developed the Shot Air Katusha Limited Edition, a model which faithfully reproduces every detail of the same shoe used by the team. This special shoe is now available in the finest cycling shops.
