Race Report: Stage 5 was billed as a power sprinters stage finish and so it proved as Sagan and Degenkolb tussled for the win. What they didn’t see was the diminutive Caleb Ewan shoot past to demonstrate his future capabilities. Stage for Orica, but red jersey for Giant-Alpecin as Tom Dumoulin slipped into the lead by 1 second.

Race Report: The stage was decided on the hard and short finishing climb where Nario Quintana attacked first. He didn't have the timing though and as he wilted, Esteban Chaves came through for the biggest win of his career, the red jersey and all the other jerseys too. Nibali out of la Vuelta.
