Today Jurgen Van den Broeck and sports director Herman Frison did a reconnaissance of the fifth stage in the upcoming Tour de France. This stage of 156 kilometers starts in Ypres and arrives in Arenberg. There are nine cobblestone sections from Paris-Roubaix on the route, good for a total length of 15.4 kilometers. It’s that part both men went to take a look at.
Team Giant-Shimano yesterday completed a three-day route reconnaissance of the opening stages of the 2014 Tour de France in Yorkshire to familiarise themselves with the routes and also what to expect come July.
Paris-Roubaix is over, but 2014 season will give the chance to the cyclists to face again the cobblestones. In the 5th stage of Tour de France, in fact, the bunch will cover 9 cobblestones sectors in the 164 km from Ypres to Arenberg.
Alberto Contador made a reconnaissance of the fifth stage of the Tour de France 2014, to be done next July 9 between Ypres and Arenberg, with nine sections of pavé in the last 75 km of the route. “It has gone well, I've seen the first part of the stage in the car and the last 75 km by bike”, he said before taking the plane back home.
Tinkoff-Saxo’s Daniele Bennati had a very unfortunate crash during last Sunday’s Ronde van Vlaanderen with teammate, Matti Breschel and the powerful Italian broke his radius and was forced to watch yesterday’s Paris-Roubaix on TV. He was otherwise expected to have played a main character in the Hell of the North:
Yesterday we all could enjoy the spectacle that Paris-Roubaix has to offer. Within three months a part of the cobblestone sections will come back in the Tour de France, in the fifth stage from Ypres to Arenberg (156km).
