Giro Best Moments: The first Grand Tour of 2016 is behind us and maybe the 99th Giro d'Italia lacked some excitement, but it certainly has thrown up many talking points. The guys in the virtual PEZ office always have different views, thank goodness, so who better to sum up the battle for Italian pink.

Roadside Giro 'Top Twelve': Ed Hood is back to the 'day job' but he still has the pink mist of the Giro d'Italia running through his head and has picked his 'Top Twelve' high points of the Italian Grand Tour from a roadside point of view. The Tour de France is for everyone, but the Giro is the Grand Tour for the cognoscente and Ed is a connoisseur of all things Giro.

The curtain has closed on the 2016 Giro d'Italia with an ‘unbelievable’ performance in the last stages by Vincenzo Nibali. They way the Italian champion went from sick to champion was 'incredible' and yes I think you know where Lee will be heading in this Final Giro Lowdown. But, are we wrong to question every performance?

Giro'16 Final Stage Roadside: The last stage of a Grand Tour can be a tad 'flat' - not this one; huge crowds, the stage winner disqualified and two of the top ten on the deck, including Esteban Chaves - right at PEZ's feet.

Race Report: It was a damp start to the final stage of the 99th Giro but, despite several crashes, it was a red-hot sprint that saw the man already in Red finally get the win to go with the jersey - Nizzolo. And then, after the celebrations it was announced that he’d been disqualified!

Good morning from Stage 21, the final stage of the 99th Giro d'Italia, Cuneo to Torino (163km). Today's possible sprinters' stage will decide the last jersey to be assigned: the Maglia Rossa of the points classification.

GIRO'16 Roadside St.20: PEZ was on the roads over the Col de la Bonette and the colle dell'Lomarda as Vincenzo Nibali turned this Giro around on the storming final day in the Alps. It's time to go roadside at the Giro!

Sant'Anna di Vinadio, 28 May 2016 – Avenging his team-mate Ilnur Zakarin who crashed spectacularly in yesterday's stage, Katusha’s Rein Taaramäe took Estonia’s first ever stage victory at the Giro d’Italia. Behind him, Vincenzo Nibali turned the general classification upside down...

GIRO'16 St.20 Race Report: Vincenzo Nibali staged one of cycling's biggest comebacks on this penultimate day, attacking race leader Esteban Chavez inside 20km to take a commanding lead as the race is all but over.

Giro'16 ROADSIDE: We'd gambled on a big attack by Chaves at high altitude, today. It didn't come and yet again, Kruijswijk looked strong as a beast within 1500 metres of the Giro's highest point - the 2744 metre Colle Dell'Agnello. Little did we know that minutes after the maglia rosa passed us he'd crash on the descent and the race would be turned on its head.

The Italian rider Vincenzo Nibali (Astana Pro Team) has won Stage 19 of the 99th Giro d'Italia, 162km from Pinerolo to Risoul. Mikel Nieve (Team Sky) finished second, with Esteban Chaves (Orica Greenedge) third.

  • Friday May 27, 2016

Race Report: Stage 19 was a day of high mountains and high drama as the race passed over the Cima Coppi. Unable to lose Kruijswijk on the climb, it was an unfortunate crash on the descent that saw the Dutchman chasing and losing time all the way into France. Nibali could smell victory for both the stage and the overall and set about re-establishing his enviable reputation as a Grand Tour winner!

Good morning from Stage 19 of the Giro d'Italia, Pinerolo to Risoul (162km), featuring the long-awaited Colle dell'Agnello, this year's highest pass at 2744m, and the uphill finish at Risoul in France.

Race Report: Stage 18 of the Giro d'Italia was a day for the breakaway and it looked like a two-way battle for the win as they came to the line. One rider had read a different script though and Matteo Trentin ambushed the lead pair just before the line to take a beautiful win ahead of two days in the Alps. Gianluca Brambilla had seen him coming and was just as happy to see his teammate take the win!

PEZ Roadside: Stage 17 and Ed Hood moves on from one set of mountains to bit of flat-land before the next section of climbing cruelty... for the riders. On a transition stage like this you need to take in as much as you can and Ed doesn't disappoint; bikes, busses and team bosses... and a bit of racing. It's all roadside.
