Jarlinson Pantano and Robinson Chalapud were protagonist of Giro d’Italia stage 9 on Sunday May 12th, taking the bunch from Sansepolcro to Florence (170 km) in an attacking display since the early kilometres, closed by Pantano with a strong third place behind Russian Maxim Belkov (Katusha) and fellow countryman Carlos Betancur (Ag2r-La Mondiale).
Cadel Evans of the BMC Racing Team sprinted to fifth place Sunday – leading in a pack of the race favorites – to take the lead in the points classification while keeping his grip on second place in another rain-plagued stage of the Giro d'Italia.
Team Saxo-Tinkoff's Evgeny Petrov was on his the mark during today's highly undulating and soaking wet ninth stage of Giro d'Italia from Sansepolcro to Florence where he leaped away in a big breakaway. The break split up going in on the final 61 kilometers while Astana tried to guide the peloton up and down the slippery surface of the wet Tuscan mountains.
