TOP RIDE: I'm still basking in the afterglow of the 2016 RBC Gran Fondo Whistler - a big goal accomplished in better form than I'd expected. And after weeks of prep, and all the logistics of coordinating the family for the weekend, and over 5 hours on my bike, it all went by a little too fast.
The seventh annual RBC GranFondo Whistler will take place Saturday, September 10th with an expected 4,500 cyclists.
There’s a reason granfondos are getting so popular here in North America… they’re damn fun. Hundreds, or in this case, thousands of riders, scenicly spectacular courses – closed to cars, massive support, and a huge party with enough beer at the end to ensure celebration on an epic scale. This second annual ride from Vancouver to Whistler was by all accounts a huge success.
The event was announced in February – and sold out in a few short weeks. My own training started in earnest just after le Tour, and all the cards were layed on the tarmac on Saturday Sept. 11, as I joined 4000 other riders in Vancouver for the inaugural RBC GranFondo Whistler.
