Ghent tributed a standing ovation to Felice Gimondi, introduced by the speaker as a "living legend of cyclisme", during the opening night at Six Days of Ghent, surrounded by 7.000 spectators on Tuesday, November 18th.
Very much is still said – in Italy and abroad - about Granfondo Gimondi-Bianchi, that was successfully back two weeks ago after an off-year. Well-known as one of top cycling date for amateurs due to its high organizational standard joint to the amazing course (even the new one including Dossena ascent achieved a resounding success), the event led to an amazing active sport happening crowded by 2200 registered riders.
The top institution of the Italian sports celebrated with Felice Gimondi – still recovering from the bad bike crash of a few days ago, but in great spirit – a beautiful 18th edition of Granfondo Gimondi-Bianchi, with a bright sun shining over it. After an off-year, the top event of amateur cycling opened a great day for sports in Bergamo, with the official Azzurri d’Italia meeting taking place in the city at the same time.
"In the last few days, with the event just around the corner, we have been receiving a huge number of requests, but we opted to close the entry process. The 18th Granfondo Gimondi-Bianchi will line-up with 2.206 registered athletes."
In one-week time, Granfondo Gimondi-Bianchi gets back on the stage on Sunday, May 4th, after a one-year break, joined to official meeting of Azzurri d’Italia (May 3rd-4th) – with Italy’s most notable former Italian sports characters. The city of Bergamo gets ready for an outstanding weekend with plenty of joy and excitement in the air.
Almost twenty years have passed since the Granfondo bearing the name of Felice Gimondi is born, throughout 17 editions making cycling community endeared to a very successful event from the start.
Gran Fondo Gimondi - Bianchi and Bergamo's artists twinning goes on at the event’s 18th edition to take place on Sunday May 4th. Zaccaria Cremaschi is the painter selected by the organizers this year.
Cycling legend Felice Gimondi used to say that women are the real drawing power either of sport and life. Same as the great Italian former champion, the organizers of GF Gimondi – Bianchi’s - the event celebrating its 18th edition, after an off-year - always manifested the same attentive approach to the women’s cycling.
Nothing could stop them, nor even bad weather. Two real phenoms in their kind, side by side on Granfondo Gimondi-Bianchi’s roads: cycling legend Felice Gimondi and Italian Chef Davide Oldani, whose “cucina pop” has become famous all over the World. They had scheduled a test ride on the route some thousands of riders will face in Bergamo on May 4th, and they stack to the plan in spite of unpleasant weather.
With just two months to go, Granfondo Gimondi - Bianchi is on its way back - after one off-year due to viability problems in 2013 - with high purposes and huge numbers of amateur riders expected in Bergamo an Sunday May 4th. In view of the event, Felice Gimondi will ride tomorrow, Sunday March 2nd, on his Granfondo’s roads alongside of two big names entertainment and haute cuisine to further gear up the event’s promotion.
Sunday, May 4th, at the 18th Granfondo Gimondi – Bianchi, leisure riders will have the opportunity to ride abreast cycling legends on Bergamo roads, sharing a special experience under the sign of sport passion and respect of environment: it doesn’t happen every day indeed!
Every year, thousands of leisure riders gather at the Gran Fondo events divided into hard competitors and others approaching the race more relaxed with the aim to spend a relatively quiet day, watching breath-taking landscapes and tasting the local foods and specialities.
Davide Cassani had a strong link with the maglia azzurra throughout the last 30 years of Italian cycling’s history. Once upon a time, Davide was the key-man in the squad led by Alfredo Martini, whose heritage on the national team car is now in his hands. Cassani also dressed the maglia azzurra when experiencing the Gran Fondo Felice Gimondi – Bianchi (coming as soon as May 4th for the 18th time, after an off-year due to viability problems) in the 1999, 2000 and 2001 editions.
In spite of an off-year, the Gran Fondo Felice Gimondi-Bianchi – to be held on 4th of May on Bergamo province’s roads – didn’t lose a bit of its popularity and enthusiasm. As soon as G.M. Sport organizers officialized the race’s return with the 18th edition, unveiling the race courses, riders from Italy and abroad, bike tourists and cycling lovers crowded the official web site and social media showing their outstanding passion for the event.
