The Pearl is the highlight of Qatar real estate. Date palm-lined boulevards offered respite from the wind, wide roundabouts made for light use of brakes, and pristine tarmac offered fast clean line through corners.

The teams were sent out on the course in staggered starts to help keep traffic pulsing on this main arterial road leading to The Pearl. You recognise the Kazakh blue against the Doha skyline here flowing with regular vehicular traffic who were pretty accommodating of the visiting riders.

The TTT for the Pro men and women and the Men Elite ITT start right outside the Lusail Moto GP circuit. After 15kms of a rectangular circuit around the Lusail complex, the course heads SSE on an 10km stretch of exposed highway where construction for the future Qatar rail network is being laid in preparation for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. A block tailwind from the NNW assists the riders as they move into The Pearl -- a massive artificial upmarket island north of Doha. Riders from all over world staying in different hotels across the city, head out in groups for a course recon.
