Cancellara: “I will travel home now and take a little break. The season has been long for me, starting back in Dubai. I have done 59 days of competition this season so far and I have another big goal at the end of this season: the World Championships. It’s not a secret that I’d like to be in my best shape there, so it’s important that I take some rest.”

Trek Factory Racing crossed the finish line in Trieste with all nine riders, one of only two teams that managed this feat. It was a testament to the young and cohesive spirit that carried them from the first stage to the last. When the nine pedaled over the line for the final time in Trieste on Sunday the tally was impressive for such a young team: Robert Kiserlovski placed 10th overall, Julian Arredondo claimed stage 18 and the mountains’ competition, and Giacomo Nizzolo four times sprinted to second place in the bunch sprints.

I first saw a Trek Domane at the 2012 Tour of Flanders Sportif ride. Somewhere into the second half of my 6 h 30 min day on the 140km circuit, we hooked up with a Swedish journo riding one of the very first production models. The bike looked really different, and something that I was eager to try out for myself. Fast forward to summer 2013 and I've now logged some miles on this machine and can confirm it's 'different' staus - but in a good way!

I’m thinking of renting an apartment in the sea-side town of Calpe, as I seem to be down here for team training camps more and more often each year. Quick-Step, Astana, and Katusha have all been here recently and now RadioShack are here to fight over the hard roads of the area. Press day didn’t have many journos (none), but there was a TV crew and a few photographers...and me. But no Lance!
