Race Report: In a race that’s been all about attacking, and attacking again it came down to a sprint finish in Paris. It almost didn’t though as Team Sky attempted to recover from their misfortunes but nothing was going to deny the big German and arguably best sprinter around, Marcel Kittel. From start to finish, he’s shown he’s the man to watch in the dash for the line.
Race Report: A long time trial full of action saw Tony Martin once again show his class with a superb win but it was the GC battle that had the excitement boiling today with 8 out of the top 10 GC places changing after the time trial was done and dusted. Stage 20 of the 2014 Tour de France was a great day for some and a nightmare for others...
Roadside Report: From the religious tourist trap of Lourdes to the history of Le Tour and on to to the backstage areas with the buses, tour tech and more - Ed Hood was everywhere today taking it all in. It might have been a rainy day in the South-West of France but it was a great day out roadside at Le Tour. Let's have a look at Ed's day through his eyes...
Race Report: It looked like a re-run of the Nîmes finish as a Garmin rider struggled to hold off a charging peloton. This time, though, perhaps aided by a big crash 3km from home, the US-based team finished their man Ramúnas Navardauskas ahead of all of the fancied sprinters.
Roadside: Vincenzo Nibali showed his class today and won his fourth stage on the Hautacam after passing our man in France; Ed Hood on the Tourmalet. Let’s see what he got up to on the mythical Pyrenean climb, the last mountain of this year’s Tour de France.
Race Report: On a day when Vincenzo Nibali could have sat back and watched the others fight it out for the podium places, the ‘Shark of Messina’ rode away from everyone with 10 kilometres of the Hautacam still to climb. Behind the French jumped Valverde to push him off the podium.
Race Report: Today was designed to be raced hard … from the flag. We had escapes and counter attacks, an ever-changing picture. The one constant was the polka-dot vision Rafal Majka, always in the action and ultimately grabbing the glory for a second stage win at this 2014 Tour.
Roadside: Our PEZ man in France, Ed Hood, has been immersing himself in the Tour, as he does every year. And as always that elusive accreditation has given him problems. In the end all was sorted and he headed off to the mountains. Day 2 of Ed’s Tour ‘14 adventure.
Race Report: Michael Rogers forced his way into the winning group and took it to the line. If that wasn’t exciting enough, the action behind saw the battle between the French riders take another step up with Bardet losing out, not only Pinot but also Peraud. Another day of action in France.
Roadside Rest Day: A superb setting with top class food, wine, beer and more it was easy to see why our experienced Tour reporter Ed Hood headed to the OmegaPharma-Quickstep media gig in Carcassonne on the Tour's rest day. Mussels to eat and some tired muscled cyclists to interview were the menu of the day.
Roadside St 15: Ed Hood, the PEZ man with the most Grand Tour experience, has hit the French ground running. He flew out of Scotland this morning and has been exploring Carcassonne this afternoon and crying into his beer over Jack Bauer being caught only metres from a Stage win in Nîmes. Ed’s 2014 Tour adventure starts here.
Race Report: Hell, it's a cruel sport sometimes. Bike racing really knows how to break your heart. It was a pretty routine stage, pretty flat after the Alps and with a rest day to follow. Today was not really a day for much to happen. We had a long dual escape, but the longer it went on … well, you just started to hope that the escapees would hang on.
Race Report: With three big climbs it was a surprise that a rider from the break would go all the way to the line for the win, but Rafal Majka did. It was no surprise that Vincenzo Nibali rode away from all the others for a fine second place and more time in the yellow jersey bank.
Race report: Vincenzo Nibali seems to be taking a stance to win this Tour in a 'historic' manner. Strong on the cobbles and now stage wins in the Yorkshire Ardennes, the Vosges and the Alps. It was a display of controlled fury from the race leader as he nailed the day. Behind him the GC got a bit of a shake-up...
Race Report: Hot conditions in the Tour de France saw the roads melting and the riders doing much the same as ice bags were the order of the day. The main breaks were pulled in on the long slopes to the finish and a sprint was set up for the fast-men that were left for the battle. Good for Kristoff, bad for Sagan.
Jul 17, 2014 - The top riders in the Tour de France are dropping like flies, but that doesn’t mean there is any less excitement, thanks to riders like Tony Gallopin. Of course we have all the results, reports, video and quotes from France. Plus all the other cycling news. café au lait, s'il vous plaît.
Race Report: With perfect timing the young French colt Tony Gallopin jumped away from the favourites on a crazy descent into the finish to hold off the pack. Peter Sagan was the big loser, the pressure was on him and he missed his chance. Another great day for the French.
Race Analysis: After the trilogy of Vosges stages there's a lot to analyze as Lee Rodgers looks back at the action so far - the attacks, the performances and of course the crashes. Froome's abandon, Contador's out and it's Nibali in control - this is certainly not the Tour de France that was predicted.
Race Report: It was touted as the Queen stage of the Vosges and even the Queen stage of the entire Tour by some and Stage 10 didn't disappoint with the action on show. Once again crashes unfortunately dominated the news with the big loss of Alberto Contador but nothing could overshadow the performance of Vincenzo Nibali who reigned supreme in the Vosges.
Jul 14, 2014 - As we dive into week two of the Tour de France; all the big mountain action is in front of us with a Frenchman in yellow for Bastille Day. It’s not all France in the cycling news; we also have Peter Kennaugh winning the Tour of Austria. Loads of video, comments and results for a full Monday Trash bag.
