The thing about the Fleche Wallonne parcours that surprised me most was just how hard this 200km ‘semi-Classic’ is. There’s nothing ‘semi’ about it… This hard course deserves the prime time and throws up 11 rated climbs, including 3 passes over a 1300 meter brute called the Mur. Here’s how it happened to me…
Top Ride:The culmination of my visit to Holy Week was the long anticipated, much feared, and never completed ride across the parcours of Paris-Roubaix. Finally I learned what it was like to battle the toughest roads in northern France and earn my own lap of honour at the Roubaix velodrome.
TRAVEL: Looking forward to, and training for a gran fondo is the ideal incentive to cap your season with your best fitness, and enjoy the reward of a great ride in a tropical location when the days turn cold back home. The GFNY Cozumel fits the bill perfectly...
Classics Preview: The Tour of Flanders defines this region, and for many fans it defines the Spring Classics themselves, but the race itself would be almost nothing without its steep nasty bergs, and of course… the cobbles. Riding the Tour of Flanders Cyclosportif lets you experience it all for yourself.
... to what makes this great race so great, was my original title for this story, written on the eve of my first trip to San Remo to view La Primavera live. Like viewing any of pro cycling's Monuments, this was a spiritual journey, and this report was my humble attempt to put that into pictures and words.
As winter hangs on across much of the 49th parallel, DeFeet's Thermeator socks and Assos' Skinfoil Ls baselayer make good sense for a lot of rides ahead. I've had both on test through the winter, so here's my long term review...
Tequila is an awesome drink – it means “party on!” in every language, has a mystique that attracts the ladies, it makes you look like a bad boy, while delivering a taste, tingle and buzz of sophisticated flavors that are best appreciated with some age – it’s the perfect drink for guys like us.
Great scenery, a spectacular climb and a twice as long descent, the Col de la Madone climb along France’s cote d’Azur is must do for any fan of great rides. The capper was meeting up with a PEZ-Fan who lives nearby for a great day on the bike.
ROADSIDE Giro'13 St.3: Yesterday’s scenic boat ride to the even more scenic island of Ischia, served as the perfect appertivo for today’s 222km haul from Sorrento to Marina di Ascea. Today we drove what is possibly the most scenic corsa I’ve seen. Ever.
ROADSIDE Giro '13, St.2: How fast fortunes change when chasing a Grand Tour: one minute you’ve missed the boat to the TTT start, and the next minute you’re in the cockpit of the high speed ferry with il Capitano’s blessing. It’s day 2 of the Giro and the PEZ himself is just warming up to the action in Italy.
For Jan. 1 I usually write an editor's message, looking back and then ahead to the next year. This year I thought would be cool to try something different - I asked the PEZ-Crew for a few words on what they're “Looking Forward to in 2014".
Readers' Rigs is a great look at what PEZ fans are riding but what about the PEZ himself - what does he ride? Well between bike tests, product trials and lends from friends it changes constantly but back in 2006 he built up a bike of his own that remains to this day one of his favorite rides.
Maybe the best part of Fall is testing kit for cold weather. The latest winter cycling kit from Castelli has been here for a few weeks, and helped me on more than a few cold rides. Here's a close look at their Diluvio Deluxe glove, Free jacket, Sorpasso Wind bibtights, Flanders LS base layer, and Diluvio Allroad Shoecover.
Congratulations to long time PEZ-Fan Cleaveran Law of Long Beach, the winer of this week's awesome 'small prize': the complete BIKE JOHNNY line of bike protectors. Stay tuned to PEZ for another cool prize coming soon.
Over a lifetime of cycling the roads of our sport, a few stand out: the fun ones, the beautiful ones, and the brutal ones - where you suffer like you never knew possible. Riding your bike up the Mortirolo in Northern Italy is all three...
Warm & dry feet make for a healthier, happier life - that's a lesson I learned as a teenager. But only recently did I discover Bogs Footwear, and their incredibly well designed and constructed boots that truly protect against the cold and wet of winter. Bogs Mid Ultra boot makes perfect sense for cyclcocross, but will quickly become your go-to boot when conditions are ugly, wherever you are.
The all new PEZ socks by DeFeet have arrived in store – and the timing could not be better as these Air-e-ator ‘Tall boys’ will keep your ankles warm and your overall look cool…
It's not one product, but four that all fit in the palm of your hand: smooth the skin with VELOBODY Shave Stick & Antifriction Chamois Cream, mount your phone with the BiKase DriKase, shout it loud with the Outdoor Tech® Buckshot Rugged Wireless Speaker, and charge it up with the Power Rocks Super Magicstick Portable Battery Recharger, Sort of...
Big congratulations to PEZ-Fan Matt Dow of Tulsa OK - who got home a little early from work to spend some time with his kids, and found out he'd won the American Classic Argent Road Tubeless wheelset - not a bad way to round out a workday!
Giro Roadside St. 5: “Sempre Dritto” – ‘always forward’ makes a good translation. When used correctly, it’s a sign of confidence, direction, and success, but these same watchwords can also lead you to places you never expected.
