Our man-in-Milan and squash pro to the stars Dunc Steele checks in with an update on his recent ramblings with the off-bike Andrea Peron, and news on a young coma-survivor's upcoming 3000km journey across Europe by bike.

So Cipo pulled a Snagglepuss and "exited, stage left" from the Giro - winless and muttering about his team not being up to snuff. But in uncharacteristic fashion, he slipped out barely noticed. We put Dunc on the case to chase down the down-lo...

Daniele Bennati. A nice, polite, good looking lad that happens to be very swift on a bike. He invited me to have dinner with him at his house with his lovely wife, Chiara, so I traveled to Arezzo, south of Florence, for a visit a couple of weeks ago.

If Milan-Sanremo is any indication, all of Italian cycling could be in dire need of a change. As Duncan Steele observed over the weekend of La Primavera, most of the fans were “oldtimers”, while young cycling fans were scarce. All this and a dose of his usual scuttlebut from our man in Milan…

Not so long ago I was told that Cadel Evans liked the A-Style stuff. We talked on the phone and finally met up, with his lovely Italian girlfriend Chiara, in Milan one cold cold afternoon, outside of the Duomo and headed to a caffe. The first thing we did was swap shirts, ...

I always like talking to the top athletes from my youth early 20's – like Sean Yates. He was for every Brit of my generation, a star. Brits weren't and aren't that reknowned for their pro-cycling capabilities, so Sean Yates in those years shone out.

"Oh Andrea Andrea. I leave you alone for a while and look what you get yourself into!" These were the first words I said to Andrea Peron after I rang him upon hearing that he had an accident. On Thursday while out on his bike alone near his home in Malaga, Spain was run over by a motorbike.

If you got an invitation from Luciana, a wonderful lady from Prim@next, to have dinner in the wonderful Hotel Principe di Savoia in Milan, in the company of Francesco Moser and Felice Gimondi, what would you say? I said yes and off I trotted!

"To me nobody is special but everybody is special." - Bjarne Riis. The deals are done and silly season is but a faded memory – it’s time to face the public and present your new team! PEZ was live and in person at the Team CSC presentation in Lucca Italy on January 17th.

“It baffles me how in some places bikers are friendly and some just don't acknowledge any existence of any other biker on the road.” Our international ambassador of the roads Dunc Steele, offers some interesting insights into the greeting habits of cyclists around the world. We may all love riding bikes, but some of us speak different languages, and some of us are just jerks…

The first team training camps have begun, with the focus being about getting to know the new guys, team bonding, a bit of fun. CSC’s Andrea Peron just returned from his CSC training camp in Lanzarote, reportedly complaining of a cold! Perhaps some “less perilous” activities are needed, so Dunc Steele offers his own list of activities for the “ideal” training camp.

This is proof that Italians can organize something well...very well. Take 300 or so cyclists with bikes, and fly them out to Sharm el Shiekh, (ie: posh resort in Egyptian boonies), organize a 120 km bike race through the desert, and get the race going with Egyptian escorts and driving. It isn't an easy task.

After the 2004 Giro d’Italia Route presentation, our man Dunc joined and impressive cast of cycling characters for a night on the town in Milano. As Dunc recounts, there’s much, much more to our sport than racing…

Dunc Steele was on hand at the 2004 Giro d'Italia Route Presentation on Saturday in Milan, getting the rider reactions you'll only find on PEZ. Some huge climbing days in the last week should make for a great race...

Good sprinter, great worker and a dedicated team man. He was a main element in last year’s Worlds in Zolder running out the sprint for Cipo. Franco Ballerini has asked him for his presence again this year in Hamilton. If he’s that important to the Italian team on whatever type of course the Worlds are held on ... I thought he must be worthy of a "Slam-Dunc"! This is what he said.

  • Thursday October 2, 2003

I wanna be Franco Ballerini! Remember when you were kids and wanted to be a pop star, sports person etc… well at 38 years old I WANT TO BE FRANCO BALLERINI!! I talked with him about the Italian Team and the Worlds...

On Sunday, July 20, PEZ Insider Andrea Peron finished 4th on the tough stage to Loudenville, having a go to attack Simoni, Virenque and Dufaux in the final meters. Thanks to the French internet, this story did not arrive in time for posting, but Dunc talked with Andrea after the stage about the dya, and the news from the bunch. As usual from Dunc, it's a great read, so even if a bit late - here it is...

THAT German...Jan Ullrich! After nearly 2 weeks of racing we have 3 men in the first 3 positions within one minute of each other. What does all this mean...means as I said last week, we have one hell of a race on our hands!!!
