A line-up of eight UAE Team Emirates riders, led by Italian sprinters Sacha Modolo and Andrea Guardini, will head to Italy on Thursday to tackle the Coppa Bernocchi, one of the most historic cycling races in Europe.

Commenting on his participation, two-time Coppa Bernocchi winner Modolo, said: “I have a special bond with the Coppa Bernocchi, having won it twice before and I would love to be able to make it number three this year. I just finished racing at La Vuelta and I am in good form; but we will have to see how much i have left in the legs, especially after the fall I took in Spain. But one thing is certain, I cannot wait and will do the best I can at this race.”

Accompanying UAE Team Emirates’ Modolo and Guardini are; Oliviero Troia, Simone Consonni, Filippo Ganna, Seid Lizde, Alexandr Riabushenko and Francesco Romano.

Commenting on the line-up, UAE Team Emirates’ Sports Director Orlando Maini said: “In Italy we will count on a formation consisting predominately of young talent, led by an experienced Italian sprinting duo of Sacha Modolo and Andrea Guardini. We will try to make the most of the riders’ enthusiasm and aim to be part of the breakaways which are sure to shake-up the race. If things were to shape-up and end in a final sprint then we will be depending on Modolo and Guardini.”

The Coppa Bernocchi is 198km long, both starting and finishing in Legnano, Italy. The race will mark the team’s last event prior to the World Cycling Championships which take place in Bergen, Norway from 17 – 24 September.
