“We are very proud and happy to be able to announce that we will work in partnership with Sportful. This give us the confidence to carefully plan the development of new products, while allowing our riders to use state of the art technology cycling clothing in order to perform at their best. We believe that our riders’ knowledge combined with Sportful’s skills and abilities will result in high quality and good looking products for our team and our fans to wear”, says General Manager of Tinkoff-Saxo, Stefano Feltrin.
Sportful is one of the driving forces allowing Tinkoff-Saxo to improve riders’ aerodynamics during the last few years. During 2014, the Italian company – in close collaboration with the riders – has designed and tested innovative products and prototypes, such as the new Speedskin suit, which saves 20 watts at 50km/h compared to the next fastest jersey when tested in the wind tunnel, and the UltraLight jersey that blocks out 90 % of all UV rays while deploying cutting edge technology for hot conditions.
eam captain Alberto Contador, currently racing in Vuelta a España, is excited about the prospect of continuing the collaboration with Sportful.
“I’m very happy to know we will ride with Sportful apparel in 2015 because it’s a company with which we work closely on the development of new products. On days like the ones we’ve had during the Vuelta, with temperatures over 40ºC, I can really feel the performance of our clothing. I can state that throughout my professional sports career in various teams, Sportful apparel is undoubtedly the one I like the most”, explains Alberto Contador and continues:
“The Speedskin suit and UltraLight are advances that reflect the essence of competition. They are optimized to squeeze out the last watt of power and while it might sound an exaggeration, a victory in a time-trial can depend a lot on the brand of apparel you wear”.
The collaboration between Tinkoff-Saxo and Sportful comes from a shared ambition of constant development. The notorious bottle vest is an example of a sporting need being satisfied through technology. The vest was designed by Sportful’s race department during the weeks leading up to Tour de France 2014 as a direct result of a specific request by the team.
“Sportful is the best because they keep developing new products, always based on the feedback we give them. We are in close contact with them, constantly trying prototype products and in my opinion this is very important. The bottle vest is a really nice idea – and no one has thought about it before. It’s clear evidence of our feedback being used to design all sort of products for us as professionals and all who enjoy cycling”, adds Italian rider Daniele Bennati.
The extended partnership equally creates excitement at Sportful, where Brand Manager Steve Smith looks forward to the long-term co-development.
“For Sportful it’s a great honor to extend the collaboration that we began with Bjarne Riis in 2010. In this time and with the team’s help we’ve developed some of the highest performance products in cycling. The ambitions of Tinkoff-Saxo are stepping up to another level and our technologies along with insights from our close collaboration with the riders will enable the team to excel in every condition”, concludes Steve Smith.
