The Tour de Pologne in Trentino: “Pedalling Towards the Sky…”
logopologne We’re getting closer to the big date with the 70th Tour de Pologne-UCI World Tour which will set off on Saturday, July 27 from Rovereto. The departure from the Trentino Dolomites in Italy will without a doubt be the most important moment of the first 70 years in the history of this Polish stage race.

The race will be made extra special by the different stage routes, which will be more selective and spectacular than ever; just consider that on the second day the riders will already have to take on the major Dolomite stage, with the scaling of Alpe di Pampeago and the arrival on Passo Pordoi/Val di Fassa, and of course, the thrill of watching the great champions who will be participating in the race, including 2013 pink jersey winner Vincenzo Nibali and the king of the 2012 Tour de France Bradley Wiggins.

And it won’t just be all about cycling. Behind the race there will be several events dedicated to culture and sport. Worth noting is definitely the work “Pedalando verso il cielo”- Pedalling towards the sky, by the artist from Trentino named Fulber, famous for his “Revisitism” style. His work seals the bond between Trentino and Poland. The piece revisits the 70th Tour de Pologne, which this year for the first time in its history is starting off from beyond its national borders, choosing Trentino to do so. In the artist’s painting the big, blue UCI World Tour sun radiates from the Polish Skylab towards the valleys of Trentino, bridged by a modern cyclist whose graphic whole reassumes some important elements of the sports event. In fact, the bike is structured around the number 70, representing the edition of this Tour, and the zero in the seventy is a stylized wheel with the number 51,151 that recalls the time record of champion Francesco Moser (Czeslaw Lang’s good friend and team mate) who contributed a lot to bringing the Tour de Pologne to Trentino. The cross at Passo Pordoi is also represented, as are the profile of the Dolomites and the symbols of the Mart in Rovereto and Madonna di Campiglio, destinations of the starts and arrivals for one of the Italian stages in the Tour.

PORDOI CLIMBING TT for everyone! Fulber’s design will also be the layout featured on the official commemorative t-shirt that will be received as a gift to all registered participants (guaranteed to the first 500) in the climbing time trial on Passo Pordoi, scheduled for Sunday, July 28th and open to everyone. The event is called “Pedalando verso il cielo…” – Pedalling towards the sky, and is dedicated to the memory of Karol Wojtyła, the unforgettable Polish Pope John Paul II who so loved these mountains and sports. This will be the background for the second stage in the Tour de Pologne, from Marilleva/Val di Sole to Passo Pordoi/ Val di Fassa.
