Premiere in the Middle Kingdom: Team Novo Nordisk is looking forward to the Tour of China
logonovonordisk For Team Novo Nordisk one highlight follows the other: After the successful performances in the US and in Brazil, the world’s first all-diabetes professional cycling team will race in China for the first time. The team will compete in the most heavily populated country in the world in the Tour of China I and II – two very competitive stage races. The first part will lead from X’ian, the capital of the Chinese province Shaanxi, which is also the starting point of the historic Silk Road, to Zunyi, which will be 812,6km. The first stage of the race will be a 5.8km time trail. The Tour of China II starts with a road race in Changsha, the capital of the Chinese province Hunan on Monday, September 23rd and ends in Tientsin on Monday, September 30th.

Team Novo Nordisk will compete in the Middle Kingdom with the well proved stage race riders as well as the best sprinters of the team. “We will try hard to build upon the successes of the US Pro Challenge and the Tour do Rio,” says Vassili Davidenko, Corporate Vice President Cycling Operation of Team Novo Nordisk. “The team is in very good shape; the riders had some rather calm days of training recently which means that everybody should be nicely rested and up for delivering our message “Changing Diabetes” to China. The team was able to gain a lot of self-confidence in the weeks past which makes us optimistic for the races in China.”

The Tour of China is a UCI (Union Cycliste Internationale) event ranked as a 2.1 category race. It will be organized by the State General Administration of Sports of China and is hosted by the Bicycle and Fencing Administrative Center of the State General Administration of Sports of China and the Chinese Cycling Association. The Tour of China was first launched in 2010 and was co-hosted by more than 20 cities in nine provinces and municipalities. It has attracted about 300 professional cyclists from every continent. It will be the first start in China for Team Novo Nordisk, however the second in Asia. The team had been successful during the Tour of Korea in June already.
