This summer amateur cyclists can soak up the atmosphere left by the world’s greatest bike race, the Tour de France, by following in their pedal strokes on the NSPCC Tour of Yorkshire from 19 – 20 July.

The second of two events in the NSPCC Tour of England series puts riders of all abilities in the saddles of the professionals for two days of fully supported riding, with domestiques, lead cars, soigneurs, mechanics, and motorcycle outriders. They will be faced with a challenging yet spectacular route through the Yorkshire countryside, taking in timed climbs of Boltby Bank and Hanging Grimston as well as optional racing on the fantastic new circuit in York.

The 180-mile multi-stage cycling experience is partnered with one of the UK’s most prestigious charities, the NSPCC. The route takes in both the Yorkshire Wolds and North Yorkshire Moors, as Event Director, James Kemp – whose previous work includes the London Olympic cycling events as well as Prudential RideLondon – put his know-how to good use in providing the best rider experience possible.

Supported by British Cycling and organised by leading cycling events company Ride2Raise, riders will benefit from a comprehensive pre-event programme of training rides and coaching sessions which will incorporate assessment to allow them to be grouped by ability for the tours. They’ll also receive a free high quality tour jersey as well as energy bars, gels, and other goodies.

Organiser Richard King, of Ride2Raise, said: “This is a premium event with a completely unique format within the UK sportive scene – and customisable entry means riders can choose whether they race or ride, and whether they self-fund or fundraise. However they do it, this is a tough, iconic ride requiring grit, determination and training in a region that will be full of cycling euphoria following the greatest bike race on earth. If participants are up for the challenge, we’ll give them the ultimate pro-rider experience.”

NSPCC Head of Participation Events, Gavin Spencer, said: “Following the success of Team GB’s cyclists at London 2012, we’ve seen a huge increase in the popularity of charity cycling events which represent an exciting new fundraising stream for us. We’re delighted to be able to build on this with the NSPCC Tour of England Series – a great opportunity to enjoy the professional peloton experience, whilst raising money to help protect children and prevent abuse. Places are limited, so sign up today to avoid disappointment!”

Riders who commit to raising £300 for the NSPCC will pay a registration fee of just £49 and will be guaranteed a free place at the Yellow Jersey Dinner with presentations and special guest speakers. Alternatively, riders can register without a minimum sponsorship commitment for a fee of £169 per individual (£229 including the Yellow Jersey Dinner), and those who raise over £200 for the NSPCC will receive a free commemorative NSPCC Tour of England jersey.

Funds raised from the event will help the NSPCC to protect vulnerable children through its projects and services including ChildLine – the UK’s free, confidential 24-hour helpline and online service for children and young people.

The NSPCC Tour of Yorkshire is one of two rides that make up the Tour of England Series, with an earlier event the NSPCC Tour of the South East taking place on 7-8 June 2014.
