Lotta Lepistö’s Medal Winning Performance
Lotta Lepistö earned Finland's first elite road medal at the World Championships on Saturday after winning the bronze medal.

The sprinter was part of the peloton that came to the line and contested the sprint.

Amalie Dideriksen (Denmark) proved too powerful for everyone and was crowned the new world champion after an impressive sprint. Kirsten Wild (Holland) won the silver medal.

Joëlle Numainville (Canada) crossed the line ninth placing two riders in the top ten for the Cervélo Bigla Pro Cycling Team.

Speaking directly after the result, Lepistö said, “I was so tired in the sprint and kept thinking I have to open up my sprint. I had to push myself to the limit but a medal is a medal and I am so happy about it.”

The Finnish national champion explained how she had to concentrate and read the race well over the 135km course.

“There were some attacks going and I had to count who was in the front and had to pay attention to it and see if I needed to be there. There was one moment where I felt I needed to be there but it came back together and I was just concentrating on staying in the front all the time.”

Lepistö was part of the team time trial team which won the bronze medal earlier in the championships. The medal today is her second of the event and the first for Finland in a road race.

“It means a lot, it’s the first road medal at this level and I hope everyone at home can enjoy it.”
Team Manager, Thomas Campana was ecstatic with the result as the team leaves the championships with two impressive podium positions.

“This is just another confirmation of the rider commitment and development,” Campana said. “If you watch Lotta's development since joining the team, it's incredible. The team is very strategic in choosing athletes and the step by step approach is paying off. We had six riders in the race and they were all present on TV.”

“We have an excellent group going forward, incorporating the new riders for next year into this group. There is a clear communication of what is expected of everyone so that all the athletes have to do is focus 100% on development and progress. We have the leading partners in the world supporting us and we’re excited to keep growing this project.”
