Pedalling among the Dolomites is an indescribable experience.
This has been a well-kept secret for years among professional cycling squads like Cannondale Pro Cycling and Astana Pro Team, which have chosen the Dolomiti Stars territory for their athletes’ summer retreats. Even yesterday Vincenzo Nibali will join his team mates at Falcade/Passo San Pellegrino as they prepare for the Tour de France.
From any village in the Dolomiti Stars you can easily reach the challenging San Pellegrino, the intimidating Fedaia and the legendary Pordoi, Dolomite passes that have written and continue writing some of the most beautiful pages of cycling history, particularly in the Giro d’Italia.
Also, thanks to the “bike friendly” project that involves accommodation facilities, rentals, shops, lodges, tour guides and lifts, in the Dolomiti Stars cyclists are welcomed with plenty of services designed specifically to meet their needs and provide them maximum comfort.
The summer schedule is chock full of events. Don’t miss the Sellaronda Bike Day on Sunday, June 22nd, a non-competitive ride in the pursuit of sports and nature which every year brings thousands of enthusiasts and entire families to pedal around the Sella Group.
It’s a highly spectacular ride that features ascents on four major Dolomite passages: Campolongo (1875 m), Gardena (2121 m), Sella (2240 m) and Pordoi (2239 m), which are all closed to traffic for the occasion from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Participation is free and open to everyone, no registration is required. We suggest the departure from Arabba and the counter-clockwise route, for a total of about 50 km with an altitude change of 1800 m.
