Area Zero D’Amico scored high marks once again at the Giro dell’Appennino. Andrea Pasqualon is already a high roller for Area Zero this year, making it to the podium several times. Here he took home a great 5th place in the bunch sprint, from which the formidable Sonny Colbrelli (Bardiani) emerged the winner.
The young, all-Italian continental team managed by Ivan De Paolis and Andrea Tonti didn’t disappoint and once again figured as a major player, as it has in all its previous tests on the Italian calendar as well as in its enterprises abroad.
“We are very satisfied; we’re seeing good results from the work carried out during the training retreat in Bormio and then in the race at the Tour de Slovenie,” explains Andrea Tonti. “The new route for the Giro dell’Appennino turned out to be less gruelling compared to the past. We knew there could be a sprinting arrival and Pasqualon did a good job staying in the best group, magisterially supported by the rest of the team. Andrea was very close to a fantastic result, he made it there to play his hand with the best of them at the finish line, against Colbrelli, who is in very good shape at the moment. Anyway, all the other members of the team also did very well, particularly Simone Petilli, Marco Tecchio and Stefano Tonin. It’s a good time; the guys are bringing it, both physically and mentally.
Now everything is focused on the Italian Championships coming up next weekend at Cles in Val di Non, on the roads of the Trofeo Melinda.
“For our team the Italian race is definitely the most important event in the first part of the season,” explains Ivan De Paolis. “It’s a race that means a lot to us and in which we hope to do well. Certainly it won’t be easy, because the level of the race will be top calibre. We are taking to the starting line with the entire team, except for Giovanni Carboni, who is busy with final graduation exams. Then on Sunday there is the time trial and we intend to participate in this event with a significant part of the team.”
