With its third top-ten finish in the 4th stage of the Tour do Rio, Team Novo Nordisk continues with its most successful performance. For Team Novo Nordisk, the world’s first all-diabetes professional cycling team, Andrea Peron was the man of the day as he came in second in the bunch sprint right behind a 4-men breakaway group. The 24-year-old, who currently races in his first year as a professional rider, had performed outstandingly well during the US Pro Challenge in Colorado already, where he finished in the top ten twice. Peron had been 7th during the 2nd stage already while his teammate Martijn Verschoor had finished 6th in the 1st stage of the Tour do Rio. At the end of the 190k (118.8m) from Teresópolis to Rio das Ostras, the Italian finished in the top ten for the 8th time already this year. “Once again this was a very fine piece of work by Andrea,” said Vassili Davidenko, Corporate Vice President Cycling Operation of Team Novo Nordisk. “At the end of the stage, Andrea was all on his own in the first group of chasers. This puts the performance in yet another light – congratulations!” Stage win in Rio das Ostras took Oscar Sevilla.
The fifth and last stage of the Tour do Rio will come back to where it started last week. The stage will be 182k (113.3m) and leads from Rio das Ostras to Rio de Janeiro, the Olympic city of 2016. The chances are good for the sprinters as there are no hard climbs to be expected.
