The call for today, along with the climb to Mortirolo Pass tomorrow, has gathered nearly 3,000 cyclists from around the world to this event, in which they climb to these two mythical peaks from the two sides at once, joining the provinces of Sondrio and Brescia on a project that aims to promote cycling and be repeated every year with Alberto Contador as reference cyclist.
At the top of the Gavia, next to the image of the Virgin of Cyclists, Alberto Contador inaugurated the sculptures of two great figures of Italian cycling, Vincenzo Torriani, the first manager of the Giro d’Italia, and Fausto Coppi, winner of 5 Giros, two Tours de France and one World Championship.
Alberto confirmed yesterday that his program for the end of season goes through racing in September at Plouay, Quebec and Montreal. He want to achieve a good shape to achieve the call of the Spanish coach to the Worlds in Florence and, if so, may end the year in Italy with Milan-Turin and the Tour of Lombardy.
Contador also confirmed that next year “I want to do The Tour at hundred percent. It is far away but I already think about it”, but still did not want to define more his calendar, waiting to schedule it along with the responsibles of his team.
