Worlds’17 Diary: Rui Costa Looks Forward To Sunday In Bergen!
World's Diary: UAE Team Emirates' Rui Costa will be fighting it out with the top riders of the Pro peloton in today's Elite Men's World Road Race Championships in Bergen, we managed to get a few quick words from the 2013 champion as he readied himself for battle.

Rui gave his thoughts exclusively to PEZ just before the race:
I’ve completed my first effort in Bergen, having taken part in the individual time trial. It is always exciting to take part in a world championship event, even if I was aware that I could not have been on the same level as the top riders. The time trial was a good experience for me and it will help me to approach the time trials in an even better way.

Bergen is a nice place and I was surprise by the large number of fans on the roads, this is something important for this kind of event.

Rui Costa - 2013 World champion

In view of today, I feel it is not possible to make weather forecast, because the weather changes so fast. There is the sun and one minute later you’re in the rain, so we’ll be ready for every kind of weather condition.

We’ve trained on the course of the road race and we have studied it. We’ll line-up 9 riders, we’re not the fastest team so we’ll need to try to make our moves in advance in order to anticipate the sprint. Some of my team mates are in a pretty good condition, as an example Nelson Oliveira obtained Wednesday’s 4th place, the best result ever for a Portuguese rider in a time trial in a World Championship.

The main favorite is once again Sagan, however the Norwegian team too could be very competitive thanks to Boasson Hagen and my future team mate Kristoff. There are also other teams such as Belgium which are full of top riders.

Rui happy to be in Norway
