Millar Out Of Tour de France! Cofidis leader David Millar is out of the Tour de France after being branded an undesirable by organiser Jean Marie Leblanc.
BBC News announced today that Millar has been banned from the race on the grounds that Leblanc doesn’t want to “pollute the Tour de France.” (And a big hello to all the other already busted ex-dopers who’ll be participating!) The news must surely place the participation of the Cofidis team in serious doubt, and possibly even the team’s future.
It just ain’t good publicity these days if your leader gets busted in a public place, and although no formal charges have been brought yet, Francois Migraine must be wondering if he should invest his cash in a safer sport like needlework or fishing.
Everything is quiet from Millar’s camp at the moment, and his website says they have no information and are waiting on instructions from his lawyers. Millar goes to see the investigating judge next week, so the speculation should continue to spiral until then at least.
L’Equipe newspaper threw a great deal of sh*t in the general direction of the fan this morning by claiming Millar ’fessed up to the French cops during his 48-hour spell in the pen from Tuesday to Thursday. They also speculated that some empty ampules of Eprex were found in Millar’s apartment.
Even a guy like MIllar, who's made more than his share of bad judgement calls, couldn't be daft enough to leave dope laying around his flat. Come on!
Why is it always pro bikers who just leave this stuff lying around for the cops to chance upon? Mind you, back in student days, we always used to leave our gear on the kitchen table, because, heck, no-one would ever find it ………
Anyway - seems like the collective Inspectors Clouseau are invoking their usual policy of "guilty until proven innocent", and fanning the flames by passing off half-baked info to the French press.
Let's hope for some real truth on the coming days.
