TDF '07 Wrap: Moments Defined
Monday, July 30, 2007  2:23:49 PM PT
No one expected a Tour like this. And even in my usual post-Tour funk, the exhaustion of trying to keep pace with the daily barrage of great racing highs, and dope-induced lows, I’m more exhausted than ever. From all that’s happened since London, three things stand out most for me…

Sunday, July 29, 2007  3:11:58 PM PT
Race Analysis Final - A cyclist’s body responds to stress by adapting and growing stronger, and riding the Tour de France is just about the most stress any rider can apply to his body in a three-week period. It’s such an immense stimulus that not only affects a rider’s fitness for the rest of the season, but it also plays a role in his performance next year as well.

PEZ Roadside St. 19 - It took three hours to get to the start from Sarlat, along winding rural roads, dodging the 'crazies,' but when we got there, we settled down for a high-quality picnic amid the vineyards, crowds, open road, and the riders as they howl ever closer to Paris.

Friday, July 27, 2007  2:28:22 PM PT
Well, Sort Of… The French had something to celebrate today, with Sandy Casar spending most of 211km in the break and coming home to Angouleme taking a tricky victory in fine fashion, though he met the pavement in an unplanned high speed dismount earlier in the day. Battered and bloody, he still has the ‘jus’ to get it done at the finish line.

Tour De PEZ: Absolutely Mental!
Saturday, July 07, 2007  6:19:48 PM PT
Occasionally you witness something that will stick with you forever, today for all the right reasons was just such a day for me, as the worlds biggest sporting event unfolded slap bang in the middle of London. The only superlative I can find for the occasion really is 'mental' in the nicest sense of the word.

Carmichael Sez: Holy Cancellara!
Saturday, July 07, 2007  3:08:45 PM PT
It’s always nice to see a World Champion win in the rainbow jersey, and Fabian Cancellara left no doubt that right now he is the world’s best against the clock. And now that he has the yellow jersey by such a big margin, he and the CSC team have to decide what they want to do over the next few days.

TDF'07 Prologue: Fabian's Fab Again
Saturday, July 07, 2007  2:43:27 PM PT
If the sheer number of fans who crammed into Londons’ historic center for today’s Tour de France prologue are to be believed, there’s a lot more life in this great race than the mainstream media think. And the cream was on top as World TT Champ Fabian Cancellara stormed the circuit to a 13 second lead.

TDF'07: Let The Ceremony Begin!
Friday, July 06, 2007  6:43:13 PM PT
London promised the biggest opening party the Tour had ever seen and judging by the size of the crowds packed into Trafalgar Square on Friday night they might just have been right. The introduction of the riders and teams brought the capital to a stand still and the racing doesn't even start till tomorrow afternoon.

TdF'07: Four Young Guns
Friday, July 06, 2007  3:16:32 PM PT
There will be nearly 200 of the world's best rolling out in London tomorrow afternoon, most you'll know little to nothing about. PEZ picks four names from three different countries that we think will be much better-known after this Tour.

T-Mobile Tour Team Presentation
Friday, July 06, 2007  9:36:00 AM PT
Hidden in the Clerkenwell area of Central London, it took me around an hour to find the Restaurant ‘Fifteen’, where T-Mobile were presenting their 2007 Tour De France Team. After fruitless requests for direction from passers-by, I had all but given up hope of ever finding the restaurant; when 4 mini-buses and one large touring bus emblazoned in T-Mobile’s Magenta colour scheme roared by like a military cavalcade.

TDF07: PEZ Rides The Prologue!
Thursday, July 05, 2007  6:44:38 PM PT
It’s not often you get to race the prologue course for a Grand Tour – let alone le Grand Boucle. But that’s just what we did a few days ahead to the race itself. Small problem – the roads were ‘open’, and that London traffic can be a bitch. But neither crazed London cabbies nor bendy buses could keep us from our appointed rounds of the most ‘regal’ prologue course in history.

LeMond On LeTour: The Week 1 Parcours
Thursday, July 05, 2007  11:16:31 AM PT
The riders make the race – so the saying goes. So maybe the course makes the riders…? We checked in with Greg LeMond, an authority on the Tour de France more credible than most, on what the 3 weeks of parcours will for the riders. Here’s our look at Week 1, as told by the three-time Tour Champ…

Tour De France '07: Yellow Jersey Hopes
Wednesday, July 04, 2007  1:18:24 PM PT
"One day, you have to stop dreaming and face the reality that you can't win the Tour," the pragmatic words of Scotland's Robert Millar. There's nothing wrong with chasing your dreams, but as a professional bike rider it can waste much of your career. Instead of riding a programme where they could secure good palmares, some riders "save" themselves for the Tour and waste golden opportunities. So, who's dreaming, who's legit, or who has the media dreaming for them?

Tour De France '07 Parcours: The PEZ-Take
Wednesday, July 04, 2007  10:27:02 AM PT
I’ve studied, digested, and slept on the course layout for the 2007 Tour, and try as I might, I’m left wishing the Tour organizers would take a lesson from their Giro counterparts when it comes to designing exciting three-week race circuits. I see seven true days of racing of the 20 stages, which doesn’t seem like much for a ‘Grand Tour’, but it's the Tour - we'll love it anyway!

Tour Replay '91: Indurain Arrives

At last, it looks as if all that class and style is going to carry the handsome Dutchman into yellow; has the Netherlands finally found a successor to Zoetemelk? It's July 1991 and we're standing in an isolated forest in Normandy around 50 K into the eighth stage of the Tour de France...

TDF Preview: Phil Spills
Thursday, June 28, 2007  5:23:04 PM PT
The VERSUS Channel held their annual pre-Tour press conference today, hosted by Phil Liggett and Paul Sherwen. It’s a great chance to check in with two guys who’ve seen more Tours than most of us, and are never short of opinions. Once we got through the usual barrage of uninspired doping questions from the mainstream guys, it was time to ask about the race itself…

Tour Taster: The Astounding '89 Tour
Wednesday, June 27, 2007  8:49:56 AM PT
Five, four, three, two, one – the big sweep second hand clicks to zero and the unbelievable becomes reality; we gasp, along with the thousands of people packed-into Luxembourg City centre. The man with the yellow jersey-topped-skinsuit as last year’s winner of the Tour de France has committed the ultimate in novice ‘time-testers’ errors and missed his start in the prologue of the 1989 Tour de France.

It's just gone 2.00 am and we've had to abandon the tent and crawl into the mini-bus, the water in the plastic one gallon containers has frozen solid - Alaska? Welcome to Mount Ventoux, Provence, France; 12 hours later the sun feels like a blow lamp playing on your skin. It's the 1987 Tour de France and there's everything to play for - let's go back a smooth 20 years and enjoy the action anew.

PEZ Insider: 2007 Tour de France Presentation
Thursday, October 26, 2006  2:06:51 PM PT
The parcours for the 2007 Grande Boucle were announced today in Paris, and PEZ was knee-deep in ‘le hoopla’ in a room light on active pros, but well-stocked with former cycling stars who joined the festivities. We know the fight against dopers is far from over, but the mood was one of excitement none-the-less – it’s still the greatest bike race in the world…
