PEZ Previews: The 2008 Tour Of California
Thursday, November 15, 2007  8:53:04 AM PT
The route for the 2008 Tour of California was announced a few days ago, and the third incarnation of the ever bettering romp along the Left Coast could provide some even better racing than in years past - certainly tougher racing. PEZ takes a closer look with the help of California native and TOCA TT standout last year, Ben Jacques-Maynes.

Tuesday, October 23, 2007  12:07:07 PM PT
Like any good Italian red, the flavours of Lombardia linger long after the glass is sipped. It's not just a super day of bike racing, its role as the finale of the Classics demands a savoured experience. As the sun sets on another season of bike racing, our indubitable romantic Alessandro takes us through his weekend…

Lombardia '07: Looking Back PEZ-Style
Monday, October 22, 2007  4:00:11 AM PT
Siena, Tuscany 06.45 Monday, sitting among the business men, bantering and drinking espresso before they head for their desks. As a wise man once said; "even if you win in the rat-race, you're still a rat!" My thoughts aren't of deals or euros, my head is still far north of here, in Lombardy.

Lombardia ’07: The Kid Rocks Como!
Saturday, October 20, 2007  10:26:35 AM PT
Damiano ‘Kid’ Cunego walked – and rode - like a man today in Como, handily outsprinting Saunier-Duval’s Ricardo Ricco to take top spot in the season-closing Race of the Falling Leaves. But with all the favorites together in the final kms, it was a true nail-biter and the zesty peppering of attacks made this one ‘molto caldo’…

Lombardia '07: PEZ Drives La Corsa!
Thursday, October 18, 2007  7:07:27 PM PT
What's long and lumpy, hurts in the middle but feels great when it’s over? Okay – a lot of things might fill in that blank, but today we refer to the one and only Race of the Falling Leaves – The Giro di Lombardia. PEZ-Man Ed Hood took to the corsa Thursday for a closer look at what makes this Classic a true ‘classic’.

Lombardia 1905: Gerbi The "Red Devil"
Thursday, October 18, 2007  12:53:15 PM PT
The Giro di Lombardia was born in 1905, and Giovanni Gerbi – called the red devil – was the first winner. The story of his break – planned in a devilish way, and realized with so much strength – has become a well known legend, which has the taste of a fable both ingenious and malicious.

PEZ Presents: The 1952 Giro Di Lombardia
Wednesday, October 17, 2007  12:15:49 PM PT
Utter confusion was the look on my face when Alessandro handed me the old newspaper and said it was a gift. Upon closer inspection, I realized I was holding the official program of the 1952 Giro di Lombardia – in mint condition! Once I got over the shock that such a treasure still existed – I couldn’t wait to share it with PEZ-Fans…

Emilia ’07: Finally Frank under the Arches!
Monday, October 15, 2007  5:53:44 PM PT
He fell in love with this race two years ago on a rainy day in October when he lost the “Race of the Arches” to Gilberto Simoni. Finally, Frank Schleck won this beautiful race on a perfect sunny day of the Italian Fall. PEZ was there, and saw a lot more than just a bike race…

Lombardia ‘97 Retro: Let's Make A Deal!
Monday, October 15, 2007  12:25:35 PM PT
It’s Lombardia Week on PEZ! One of our favorite times of the year – when hard bike racing, a beautiful corsa, and fine Italian food and wine set the stage for the season’s last big race. Our Italian correspondent Ale Federico gets us started with his replay of the 1997 edition, where the outcome was enough to makes cynics of us all.

ParisTours'07: Ale! Ale! Ale!
Sunday, October 14, 2007  1:28:34 PM PT
After an action packed day of racing with multitudes of different breaks and a swing for the fences end of the race high powered move - it all came down to a free-for-all bunch sprint on the Avenue de Grammont, the race lived up to its nickname as the Alpe D'Huez for Sprinters today, and what better sprinter than one Alessandro Petacchi?

Paris-Tours'07: The Sprinters' Classic?
Friday, October 12, 2007  7:44:01 AM PT
A straight line of almost three kilometres with not an obstacle in sight: the Avenue de Grammont in Tours can lay claim to one of the most prestigious finishing straights in all of cycling, rivalled perhaps only by the Via Roma in San Remo and the Champs-Élysées in Paris. This weekend will see a return to the Avenue de Grammont, but the big question is whether a breakaway can hold off the sprinters for the ninth time in eleven years.

Giro dell'Emilia: The Race Under The Arches
Thursday, October 11, 2007  11:35:00 AM PT
In seven days, cycling will depart from the European roads until February. The Giro di Lombardia will be, as usual, the last Classic of the year; a sort of final revenge for the few who still have the power to fight for a part of history. But, before the 'Classic of the Lake', one race on the Italian calendar promises one of the most interesting and fascinating battles of the year: the Giro dell'Emilia.

Worlds'07: U23 Road Race Roadside
Tuesday, October 02, 2007  10:31:04 PM PT
Espoir - it's French for "hope". With 168 riders from 46 nations starting the U23 race, there was tons of it last week in Stuttgart. We couldn't begin to capture the aspirations of all those riders, but before the start, we tried to crystallize a few of those dreams by talking to some of the hopeful.

Worlds ’07: Elite Men Roadside
Monday, October 01, 2007  11:53:57 AM PT

Worlds’07: U23 Men's RR, Victorious Velits
Saturday, September 29, 2007  11:18:23 AM PT
The World Champs race for Under 23’s is always a fast, unpredictable race and this year was no different. There were riders up the road all day, attack followed attack, but in the end there was a bunch sprint, carnage on the line, and a worthy winner.

Worlds’07: Elite Woman’s RR, Brilliant Bastianelli
Saturday, September 29, 2007  6:01:51 AM PT
Perfect tactics and strong riding from the Italian team guaranteed them a win today and what a win! The race looked like it was going to be a sprint, but the thin, young, girl from Roma, Marta Bastianelli, took the race by the scruff of the neck and gave it a good shake!

“Bettini and Pozzato will be our men. We are looking for the highest result and we’ve got the right men and the right concentration to get it. I think it will be a very difficult race...” So said Italian national team coach Franco Ballerini to Gazzetta dello Sport last week. Worlds07: With The Cruise Missiles In Stuttgart
Wednesday, September 26, 2007  7:49:38 AM PT
The red cruise missile has locked-on, it’s skimming the ground and will be upon us in seconds – it’s not a real cruise missile, it’s actually super-star to-be, Edvald Boasson Hagen of Norway, but he’s riding at cruise missile speed. I’m in the following car of Gatis Smukulis of Latvia who’s been battering huge gears through these leafy loops around the western side of Stuttgart in the World under-23 time trial championship.
